Amy Griffin - Biography
Amy was born into a large family with Nomadic instincts. Growing up all over the U.S., Griffin fell in love with many diverse landscapes. From the sultry shores of Mississippi to the snowy caps of Alaska, Griffin’s surroundings always fed her imagination.
Griffin feels that maintaining a childlike fascination of the world creates magic in the ordinary. By seeing the world through such eyes, one can find charm and personality emanating from the oddest of objects or places. Griffin relays that, for her, the magic of photography is in capturing a moment, a mood. When people view my work, I want them to experience what that object or landscape shared with me when I took the photograph. I believe in the beauty of simple things, which is a beauty often overlooked. My photographs are my way of saying, ‘open your eyes to everything.’
Griffin graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BA in English. She first considered continuing as a Literary Critic after having several of her pieces published in academic journals, but felt the need to express herself more visually. She found that artistic release while studying photography and darkroom techniques under her husband Richard Griffin, who is a professional photographer.
